Our initial goal was to attempt to record Electromagnetic Voice Phenomena, but the project eventually took on a much different cast. We never succeeded in capturing any ghostly voices, but we reassembled the recordings into new compositions that captured the haunted spaciousness of the theatre. That’s where 139 Nevada began. We returned to record in the theatre two more times while making these two records. Even if the spirits never raised their voices, we hope they were entertained by our presence. The release consists of two discs, "masked mirror" by encomiast and "slam your doors in golden silence" by The Copper Thieves, a coalition including members of encomiast and Mandible Chatter. Both collections mine the rich sonic bed of the Belvidere Theatre, but each one takes its own clear path. 139 Nevada is packaged in a 5x6 hand-stamped jewelry box with two postcard inserts and is being released in conjunction with Lens Records. The physical edition is limited to 200 copies. The melody in this song is likewise simple but perfect, a melancholy hook that is gradually joined by drums and electronic drones as the song evolves, turning into a amazing piece of dreamy ambient post-rock pop. Lens Records released Encomiast’s Winter's End CD in 2001 - a release recently described as ‘a delirious blend of dark dreamy blackened drones and shimmering cinematic ambience’ - the tracks on Self-titled revisit much of the same sonic territory. self-titled CD - $10  espera - H/s Recordings 2003   Another gorgeous collection of thick glistening drones from the man known as Encomiast. Whereas his Havens record that we listed a few months back was a more varied affair, dabbling in grinding industrial soundscapes, fuzzy ambient flutter and everything in between, Espera finds him in a more minimal, seemingly more subdued musical mood. The tracks are still varied, but they are much more static, these are deep dark drones, the variations are subtle, each track is a slow shifting glacial sonic expanse, layered and dense, most of the tracks drift long darkly, all ominous low end, with some barely there streaks of upper register harmonics, a bit like an even more minimal SUNNO))) at times, but just as often referencing Chalk and Coleclough, even Organum, massive and thick, each stretch of sound a nearly static dirge. Gloriously bleak and dreamily dark and dreary. Essential listening for the drone obsessed for sure. (Aquarius Records) espera CD - $10 Spawn of the Matriarch - Samtliche Werke   This disc contains the definitive complete works of the now-dormant Tajikistani/Coloradan metal behemoth Spawn of the Matriarch. The songs bounce between frost-blasting black metal, lurching death metal, and oddball progressive rock. The disc also includes contributions from Encomiast mainstay Megan Garland and Denver marimba/prose legend Jennie Dorris. This CD was released as a limited edition of 100 in a slimline DVD case, and we still have some left. Samtliche Werke is the perfect companion soundtrack to a holiday in the Mountains of Madness.
